Police seeking information in Cass County deaths

UPDATE AS OF JANUARY 11, 2019

Indiana State Police investigators have determined there were multiple vehicles that traveled southbound, on U.S. 35, prior to and immediately after a purported hit and run crash that killed Zachary Wines, 26, Walton, IN and Bryan Curry, 52, Valparaiso, IN, on November 27, 2018. The crash occurred on U.S. 35 near Cass County Road 800 South.

Lead investigator, Indiana State Police Detective Brent Ingram said, “a small black or dark colored sedan (or coupe), followed by a small black or dark colored SUV, in addition to what appeared to be a Jeep Cherokee, were observed traveling southbound in the area. The Jeep Cherokee type vehicle  drove out of the Walton Maramart lot prior to traveling southbound on U.S. 35, towards the crash scene, near Cass County Road 800 South.”

Ingram continued, “there were also two vehicles observed traveling northbound on U.S. 35, near the crash scene. One vehicle was a gray or silver pick-up truck (possibly a Chevrolet), which pulled into the Walton Maramart for fuel. A black or dark colored pick-up truck, with a yellow flashing light, was also observed.”

Detective Ingram would like to speak to the occupants of the described vehicles in an effort to gain information which could assist the Indiana State Police in solving the purported hit and run crash that took the lives of Zachary Wines and Bryan Curry.

Walton – Indiana State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in solving a hit and run case that took the lives of two men On U.S. 35 south of Walton, IN. Investigators have determined that there were multiple vehicles that drove south bound on US. 35,  near Cass County Road 800 South, between 6:20 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on November 27, 2018. It is believed that is the time frame in which Zachary Wines, 26, Walton, IN, and Bryan Curry, 52, Valparaiso, IN were allegedly struck and killed by a passing vehicle.

Indiana State Police detectives are asking for information from the public. If you are one of the the drivers or passengers, in a vehicle, that drove southbound on U.S. 35 near Cass County Road 800 South, between 6:20 p.m. and 6:30 p.m, on November 27, 2018, you are asked to contact Indiana State Police Detective Brent Ingram by calling 1-765-473-6666.

Walton – Last night at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded to the report of two deceased adult males, in the roadway, on U.S. 35 north of Cass County Road 800 South.

The preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police Detective Brent Ingram, and Indiana State Police crash reconstructionists, revealed that Zachary Wines, 26, Walton, IN and Bryan Curry, 52, Valparaiso, IN, were found deceased on U.S. 35, north of Cass County Road 800 South. Preliminary evidence indicates the men were struck by a northbound vehicle.

Investigators have yet to determine why Wines and Curry were in the roadway. Two vehicles, which investigators believed were driven by the deceased males, were found parked on the east side of U.S. 35, with engines running.

Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with this case. Anyone with information is urged to call the Indiana State Police Peru Post at 1-765-473-6666. 

This is an ongoing investigation. Autopsies will be conducted on Wines and Curry.

Detective Ingram was assisted at the crash scene by ISP Lt Colonel Matt Bilkey, ISP Lt Jeremy Kelly, ISP Sergeant Rick Brown, ISP Sergeant Brian Dormer, Senior Trooper Todd Trottier, Trooper Matt Moon, Trooper David Kewish, Trooper Chad Babbs, Trooper John Cole, the Cass County Coroner’s Office, the Walton Fire Department, and the Walton Police Department.
