Patrick H. Long, 55, of Kewanna passed away at 1:25 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2019 surrounded by love and family at home.

Born November 6, 1963 in Peru, he was the son of David Winston Long and Reta Jean (Hartleroad) Long.

He grew up with 4 sisters and 2 brothers. He lived most of his life around Marshtown and Kewanna. He attended Caston High School and made a career of construction. He was an expert drywaller and could build anything that he set his mind to. He worked for Handschu Construction since the early 90’s until he got sick in the summer of 2018.

In June of 1991, he married Karen Swafford. They had one son, Brandon “Nick”. They later divorced.

He was a “Rams” fan, no matter where they were. He enjoyed Nascar racing and attended any races he could. He was the biggest fan of his son, Nick. Nick played all sports and Pat would always say “That’s my boy!” no matter what he did, even if it was wrong. He was very proud of him.

Anyone who knew Pat, knew there was going to be a smile and joke coming. All the kids knew “Uncle Pat” had lots of candy. They called him “Candy Man” for many years and he loved it.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Survivors include his companion, Becky Shearn of Kewanna, son, Brandon “Nick” Long (Ashley) of Kewanna, father, David Long (Kay) of Royal Center, brothers, Harold Bouthot (Lori) of Peru and Jay Hartleroad (Carol) of South Bend, sisters, Sherry Sterling (Bob) of Peru and Pam Danner (Bill) of Florida and grandchildren, Aubrey Long, Kayden Baldwin, Aleah Baldwin and Natalynn Bowen.

He was preceded in death by mother, Reta Jean Long and sisters, Janet Long and Brenda Hartleroad.

A Celebration of Pat’s Life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2019 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home & Crematory, Kewanna Chapel with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Friday. Pastor Mark Pilger will officiate.
