Cass County Reading Railroad Receives $2,500 Grant from Duke Energy

Last Updated on August 13, 2019 by cassnetwork

“The Cass County Reading Railroad, a program of United Way of Cass County, is excited to announce it has received a grant for $2,500 from Duke Energy to benefit the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program in Cass County,” says Peggy Scott of United Way of Cass County.

This grant will help to sponsor children birth to five years old who are enrolled in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Each child that registers receives one book a month through his/her fifth birthday. Currently, there are 980 children enrolled with an average waiting list of 50 children per month. As children graduate at age five or move away, a new child is enrolled in the program. The books are mailed directly to the child’s home and they begin to build their personal home library to share with their family members.

With the help of community partners, such as Duke Energy, we are able to continue this valuable program,” says Chris Armstrong, Executive Director of United Way of Cass County.
