Cass County Community Foundation announces new Ed Johnson Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship

Last Updated on September 30, 2019 by cassnetwork

The Cass County Community Foundation is pleased to announce a new scholarship available for seniors graduating in 2020. The Ed Johnson Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship was established by his wife and son to honor his memory after his passing in January 2019. The scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating high school senior, residing in Cass County who plans to attend a four-year college obtaining a bachelor’s degree and pursuing a career in law enforcement. Applicants will also submit a brief one-page essay describing why they have chosen to pursue a career in law enforcement.

Ed Johnson began serving the City of Logansport as a police officer on July 21, 1978 when he was 25 years old. He proudly served the City for 26 years, retiring on July 23, 2004. After his retirement, Ed continued his law enforcement career by serving part time with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department as a Security Office at the Cass County Courthouse. While working full time on the Logansport Police Department, Ed returned to school earning an associate’s and later, a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in Criminal Justice. While he loved being a police officer, Ed also knew the importance of continuing his education and graduating from college. This scholarship honors both of his passions.

CCCF scholarships each have specific criteria established by donor and the amount of the individual awards will vary. Students will receive application information about this, and other scholarships held at CCCF during November 2019. Applications are typically due at the CCCF office in late January.

In 2019, CCCF awarded 138 scholarships totaling over $520,000. For more information on this scholarship or how to establish your own scholarship, please call the Cass County Community Foundation at 574-722-2200.
