Cecil Trapp, 87, Logansport, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019, in Woodbridge Health Campus following a hard-fought battle with dementia.
Cecil was born on October 27, 1932, to Virgil and Ellen (Michael) Trapp, in Wheeling, Indiana.
He grew up in Carroll County and moved to Cass County when he was in High School.
Cecil graduated from Royal Center High School in 1951 and later that year joined the U.S. Navy. During his enlistment he served as a cook on Guam and on the Mine Sweepers “Waxwing” and “Surf Bird“ during the Korean War. Cecil was proud to have served his country and. He was a member of the American Legion Post 60 and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790, where he had served as Commander and in multiple other capacities.
In 1955 Cecil returned to Cass County and on Aug 3, 1956, married Norma Jean Kraay who survives.
Cecil worked at Forgey’s Dairy and drove a truck picking up grade B milk in the big 8 and 10 gallon milk cans that he carried to processing plants in Rochester and Peru. He also drove a school bus route in the Noble township area in the early 60’s. In 1965, he joined the Brick Layers Union where he worked for a few years before starting Trapp Masonry. The business later became C&D Masonry, which he operated with his long- time friend Dick Shedron.
Cecil loved the Lord and served Him in many capacities in the church at Pisgah Christian Church where he has been a member since 1985. Cecil didn’t know a stranger, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends camping, playing cards and horseshoes with many friends.
Cecil also enjoyed being a Texas Snowbird for many winters in Brownsville Texas, and several fishing trips North with the guys.
Surviving with his wife, are two brothers: Max (Ronda) Trapp Logansport, and Meredith R, “Butch” Trapp, of Rochester; son Louis (Debi) Trapp, LaGrange, Georgia; daughters: Peggy (John) Ruff, Logansport, and Lynne (Kevin) Bonnell, Mulino, Oregon; special niece, Grace (Charles) Cantwell, of Rosedale. six grandchildren: Jenny (Chad)Riddle, Newberg, Oregon, Josh (Randi) Bonnell, Richland, Washington, Holly (Brian) Felker, Libby (Brant) Myers, Cj (Marisa) Gilsinger, and Holly Brewer all of Logansport. Cecil was blessed with twenty great grandchildren, and five great- great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law Nina (Lee) Trapp of New London, and Betsy Harris of Logansport; one brother-in- law, Carl Dillman of Plymouth; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Cecil was preceded in death by five sisters, Margret Ann Henry and her husband Duane, Barbara Power and her husband Truman, Shirley Dillman, Vivian and Janice Trapp; brother, Lee Trapp; and sister-in-law Joann (Butch) Trapp; Brother-in-law, Stanley (Carolyn) Kraay; great-grandson, Ezekiel Farlin Felker and great-granddaughter, Ashley Ruff.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions can be made to Pisgah Christian Church, Guardian Angel Hospice or a favorite Veteran’s Support Group.
A Funeral Service celebrating the life of Cecil Trapp will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, November 11 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastors Martin Lewellen and Larry Phillips officiating.
Interment, with full military honors by the Cass County Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy, will be in Pisgah Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Sunday, November 10 in the funeral chapel. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Monday.
