New school resource officers in place at Pioneer and Lewis Cass

The start of a new semester brought two new faces to local academic halls. Pioneer and Lewis Cass have new school resource officers from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. A cooperative effort with the leadership teams of the Pioneer and Lewis Cass School Corporations and Cass County Sheriff Ed Schroder placed a deputy sheriff in each corporation for the academic year.

Deputy Ryan Preston, a ten-year veteran of policing, is assigned to the Lewis Cass School Corporation. Deputy Preston is a certified school resource officer through the National Association of School Resource Officers.

Deputy Brian Swartzell, a twenty-one year veteran, is assigned to Pioneer School Corporation. Deputy Swartzell is a certified school resource officers through the National Association of School Resource Officers.

Sheriff Schroder stated that the protection and mentoring of our youth is a primary function of any police agency. The school resource officers will be on the frontline of fostering positive relationships while providing security at our local schools. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is proud to be a partner in this important effort.
