Addressing U.S. 31, J-turn Concerns

Last Updated on February 26, 2020 by State Senator Stacey Donato

The following column was submitted by State Senator Stacey Donato (R-Logansport)

In recent weeks, my office has been contacted by many local residents who strongly oppose the installation of five J-turn intersections in Miami County.

For those unaware, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is moving forward with plans to install five J-turns, otherwise known as median U-turns, on U.S. 31.

INDOT has confirmed that the J-turns will be installed at the following intersections on U.S. 31: 850 South; Ind. 218 South junction that goes into Bunker; Ind. 218 North junction that runs by Grissom Air Reserve base; 100 North; and Ind. 16.

I commend local leaders for the action they took three years ago to defeat the initial plans INDOT proposed. While INDOT has revived their plan, I want local residents to know that I am actively working with stakeholders to address their latest proposal.

I encourage concerned residents to contact my office by email at Senator.Donato@iga.in.gov to share their perspectives. I look forward to working with local and state officials to ensure that local rights are upheld.
