On Monday, June 29, 2020 at approximately 2:19 p.m., Cass County Central Dispatch received a call of a two-vehicle crash at the Burlington exchange of the Hoosier Heartland Highway (US 24). Deputy Jonathan Ousley, Deputy Scott Turney and several other deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Walton Fire, Cass County Fire District 1, Phoenix Ambulance Service and Cass County Emergency Management Agency also responded to the crash. Initial scene assessment found a two-vehicle crash with the northbound lands of State Road 29 blocked by both vehicles.

Preliminary investigation by Deputy Jonathan Ousley found that Rachel Henn, 39, of Logansport, IN had been driving a 2005 Jeep Cherokee westbound on the ramp to State Road 29 when she failed to yield to a northbound 2010 Dodge Ram truck driven by Denise Vasquez, 31, of Logansport. Henn and a 4-year-old passenger had to be extricated from the Jeep by fire personnel. Two Lutheran helicopters were requested at the scene by medical personnel to airlift Henn and her juvenile passenger to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and alcohol is not considered to be a factor in this crash. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 574-753-7800.
