Michael Petrie

The 2020 Logansport High School Hall of Distinction Inductee is 1972 graduate, Michael F. Petrie, CMB.

We look forward to recognizing Michael at the 149th Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, August 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the Berry Bowl.

Michael is a graduate of Indiana University with both a BS and MBA in Finance from the Kelley School of Business. In 1999, Michael earned his Certified Mortgage Banker designation (CMB) and in 2004 received the Accredited Mortgage Professional Designation (AMP).

Michael is chairman and CEO of Merchants Bancorp and chairman of Merchants Bank of Indiana, a $7.9 billion bank headquartered in Carmel, Indiana. Michael previously served as chairman and CEO of Merchants Capital Corp. (MCC), founded in 1990 with his business partner, Randall Rogers. MCC is a mortgage banking firm specializing in multifamily housing and healthcare facilities finance.

Michael was awarded the “Sagamore of the Wabash” in 2004 and MBA’s Burton C. Wood Legislative Service Award in 2000. In 2019, he was named an IU Kelley School of Business Academy of Alumni Fellows.

Michael is active in the industry and in the community. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana Affordable Housing Council (IAHC) and the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (INHP). Additionally, he serves on the national board for the IU Varsity Club and the advisory board for the IU Center for Real Estate Studies. Michael previously served on the Mortgage Bankers Association Board of Directors, Washington, D.C., serving as Chairman in 2005.

Michael also serves on the board of directors and is president of Highland Golf and Country Club, the Highland Golf Academy Foundation and the Highland Golf Country Club Foundation. He is also the founder and chairman emeritus of Merchants Affordable Housing Corp, a 501c3 not-for-profit affordable housing provider operating more than 2,500 units in Indiana.

Michael and his wife Jody reside in Carmel and have two daughters, Emily (fiancé Rob Pell) and Julia (husband Matt Kaercher). They have three grandchildren Reagan, James and George.
