Logansport Sears store closing in May
A representative from Sears Holdings has confirmed that the Sears store in the Logansport Mall will close.
Employees were reportedly told Friday that the store would be closing. Howard Riefs, director of Corporate Public Relations for Sears Holdings, replied to an email today from Cass County Communication Network & Mid-America Radio Group of Logansport requesting more information about the rumored closing.
"The Sears store and Sears Auto Center in Logansport will close to the public in mid-May," Riefs said. "Until then, the store will remain open for customers. The store will begin its liquidation sale on February 21. This store is being closed because the lease was not renewed. Store closures are part of a series of actions we’re taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model. These actions will better enable us to focus our investments on serving our customers and members through integrated retail – at the store, online and in the home."
Riefs said the Logansport store has 43 employees, most of whom are part-time/hourly.
"Those associates that are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores," Riefs said.
