First responders were busy from 5:30-11:30 p.m. on January 8, 2022. A significant weather event caused icy and slick road conditions in Cass County. During this period, rain developed with freezing temperatures which caused very dangerous road conditions. The Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded to seventeen crashes and three slide offs. One of the crashes was a minor personal injury crash and the rest of the crashes were property damage only.

A majority of the events were east of Logansport on Logansport Road and County Road 600 East. There were reports of a twenty car pileup on Logansport Road near Pottawatomie Road but that was false. There were five crashes involving nine vehicles in that area.

“This was a serious traffic event that created a strain on emergency services in Cass County. Highway crews were essential in mitigating the danger for motorists. Please drive with an awareness of changing weather and road conditions and be prepared for an extended exposure during cold weather,” stated Sheriff Ed Scrhoder.
