John A. Buttice

butticeJohn A. Buttice, age 82, Logansport, passed away at 11:43 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born in Logansport on Thursday, November 3, 1932, he was the son of the late Michael and Vincenza Riolo Buttice.

On May 14, 1952 in St. Vincent’s Church, John was married to Mary E. Pearson, who preceded him in death on May 20, 2010.

John was a 1950 graduate of Deer Creek High School, where he was proud to be a part of the “Starting 5” for the Deer Creek Crickets Basketball team.

He was a United States Navy veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790 and the American Legion Post 60.

He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, and had also been a member of the former Eagles Lodge.

On December 31, 1990,John retired from Exide after 30 years of employment.  He also delivered produce for Buttice Fruit and Vegetable for many years.

He enjoyed coon hunting and trap shooting.

John was a good man who had a great and funny personality.  The man was loved by many, and we will miss him dearly.

Surviving are children, Mike (Jane) Buttice, Deer Creek, Johnny Buttice, Logansport, Kathy Wooten, Anderson, and Teresa (David) Cosby, Avon; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and sisters, Leona Newberry, Griffith, and Josephine Young, Crown Point.

Also preceding him in death were siblings, Charlie, Joe, Clara, and Mary.

The visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., on Monday, March 2, 2015, at Kroeger Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, also at the funeral home, with Father Michael McKinney officiating.

Burial, with full military rites, will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
