The Cass County Community Foundation held a press conference and reception to announce the recipients of the 2015 CCCF Community Grant Awards on Sept. 22, 2015 at Ivy Tech’s Community Room. The crowd of attendees included representatives of the recipient organizations, as well as donors, board members, volunteers and members of the media. Earlier in June, the Foundation had announced that up to $100,000 would be available for the competitive grants. This year, the Cass County Community Foundation awarded 12 organizations community grants totaling $102,299.78.
“We had 23 worthwhile proposals submitted this year, totaling $524,848.10,” President Deanna Crispen shared. “The grants committee was charged with evaluating and comparing those proposals and missions and had been authorized to award up to $100,000. After careful review and consideration, the committee unanimously recommended the Grants Chair request the additional $2,299.78 from the board.”
“The additional funding request to the board allowed our committee to completely fund nine proposals and fund significant phases or projects for three other organizations,” CCCF Grants Chair Paul Kroeger said.
Funding for community grants is made available through the generosity of donors to CCCF’s unrestricted community endowments. Currently, the Foundation has a $1 to $1 match from Lilly Endowment Phase VI for any new gifts to the unrestricted community funds.
2015 Community Grant Award recipients and their projects:
Cass County Carousel: $18,600 for a new drive unit for the carousel
Big Brothers/Big Sisters: $1,446 for technology update
Pulaski Health Foundation/Panhandle Pathway: $1,200 for an asphalt crack melter
Emmaus Mission Center: $5,500 for shelter beds/insect resistant covers
Cass/Pulaski Community Corrections/Logan’s Landing: $9,913.86 for a greenhouse expansion to grow 2,500 more plants
NC Indiana Regional Planning/Cass County Fire District One: $22,705 for a Hurst Edraulic Extrication Tool (Jaws of Life)
Junior Achievement Cass County: $4,960 for the 5th grade JA Our Nation Program
Cass County Arts Alliance: $20,000 for Two Rivers Arts and Music Festival
Cass County Fire Association: $1,056 for climate managing equipment to be used by any county safety workers in extreme weather
Civic Players of Logansport: $10,008 for new microphones and transmitters
Southeastern Buddy Bags: $5,605 for expansion of food program to Jr. High School
Royal Center Volunteer Fire Department/RC Boone Library: $1,305.92 for community e-readers
Total distribution for recommended grants is $102,299.78.
