Indiana Democratic Party Launches #FixOurRoads Campaign

Last Updated on October 12, 2015 by cassnetwork

With more than 1,900 structurally deficient bridges across the state and $71 million Hoosier taxpayer dollars wasted on faulty asphalt, the Indiana Democratic Party today announced its “#FixOurRoads” campaign, an effort aimed at putting the power back in the hands of everyday Hoosiers by giving them the opportunity to show Governor Pence the crumbling roads and bridges around their community.

Simply put, the Indiana Democratic Party wants Hoosiers voice their opinion and tell Governor Pence that his late to the game strategy is hurting their overall well-being. Through Facebook and Twitter, the IDP is asking all Hoosiers to post photos of crumbling state roads and bridges within their communities and use the hashtag “#FixOurRoads”.

“Governor Pence and the state can throw out statistics and claim the state’s roads and bridges are improving, but everyday Hoosiers aren’t buying it because they use Indiana’s D+ rate infrastructure system every day,” said John Zody, Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party.  “Starting today, we’re asking all Hoosiers to take their frustrations to social media and show Mike Pence that they are tired of him putting his ideology ahead of solving one of today’s biggest problems for our state. Governor Pence, #FixOurRoads.”

Even as Governor Pence is expected to announce his plans to use some of Indiana’s $2.1 billion surplus to help INDOT repair the state’s crumbling infrastructure, the total amount could fall well short of the $1 billion bare minimum that’s needed to just maintain the current state of our roads and bridges.

Regardless of the outcome Tuesday, Governor Pence and INDOT are late to the game on tackling one of the fundamentals of governing. The result? Governor Pence has put Indiana’s coveted “Crossroads of America” in jeopardy. Governor Pence, #FixOurRoads.
