Indiana cities and towns to take part in official Bicentennial kickoff

Last Updated on December 10, 2015 by cassnetwork

Commissioner Jim Sailors will raise the Official Bicentennial Flag at the Cass Co Sherriff’s office, along with cities and towns across the state. All flags will be raised together at noon EST on Friday Dec 5, 2015 and will continue to fly throughout the year.  In attendance will be volunteers from the Cass County Bicentennial Committee, and the Cass County Community Foundation. The Cass County Bicentennial is a grant project funded by the Cass County Community Foundation.

“The flag is a symbol of unity as we kick off the Bicentennial,” Executive Director of the Indiana Bicentennial Commission Perry Hammock said. “In their hometowns and in their travels, Hoosiers will see the Bicentennial flag waving all across the state during our year-long celebration.”

Flags were made available through the generous sponsorship of MacAllister Machinery Company and the Association of Indiana Counties.

The white flag presents the Indiana 200 Bicentennial logo in the blue and yellow of the Indiana State Flag. Bicentennial flags are available in full size (3’ by 5’) and in miniature (4” by 6”). They can be purchased at the Indiana Historical Bureau and online at the IHB website, just in time for the holiday shopping season.

The Indiana Bicentennial Commission is a fifteen-member body, chaired by Former Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman and Former U.S. Congressman Lee Hamilton, charged with overseeing the planning and execution of a statewide celebration for Indiana’s 200th birthday. First Lady Karen Pence serves as Official Bicentennial Ambassador. Indiana’s 2016 Bicentennial celebration aims to honor our state’s 200 years of history, and do so in a way that engages all Hoosiers and leaves a lasting legacy for future generations. The commission encourages every community in Indiana to take part in this unique celebration.
