kernsBessie B. Kerns, age 80, Cedar Lake, formerly of Logansport, went home to the Lord at 4:35 p.m. (CST) on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at her daughter’s residence in Cedar Lake.

Born September 8, 1935, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Elmer and Ida Smith Mahler.

On July 5, 1984, in Gallatin, Tenn., she was married to Harry E. Kerns, who preceded her in death on January 31, 2002.

A homemaker, Bessie was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, all nature, crocheting, knitting and especially watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren play.

Surviving are a son, John (Linda) Peterson, Jr., Indianapolis; daughters, Deborah (Glenn) Miller, Cedar Lake, Cyndi (Brett) Whitten, Fredericksburg, VA, and Michelle (Tony) Siegert, Park Forest, IL; brother, Kenny Mahler, Michigan City; sister, Bonnie (Ronch) Clem, Logansport.

Also surviving are ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding in death were two sons, Joe and Gary, daughter, Beth, grandson, Stevie, two sisters, Donna and Kate, and a brother, Terry.

Visitation will be Friday, February 5, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kroeger Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6 at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
