Dr. Greg Bell, who starred in track at Indiana University before winning the Olympic gold medal in the long jump, has become the latest Logansport resident to become a recipient of a special honor.
Mayor Dave Kitchell named Bell as this week’s Logansport Bicentennial Citizen of the Week on Friday.
Bell, a native of Terre Haute, has practiced dentistry for several years in Logansport and has been active in Rotary.
He also has been a guest speaker for local events and participated in Special Olympics.
“We’re fortunate to have someone of Dr. Bell’s stature living in Logansport,” Kitchell said. “Olympians come from everywhere, but many gold medalists like him could have chosen to live anywhere, and he chose us. We’re humbled to be the home of an Olympian who has been active in our community. While Black History Month is observed throughout the nation in February, we all should pause and remember that a great chapter in the nation’s African-American history is walking among us every day.”
Dr. Bell will receive an Indiana flag and a certificate from the city.
Bicentennial Citizens are honored in conjunction with Indiana’s 200th anniversary and are presented to Logansport natives or current residents who have received state or national recognition.
