catesMargaret M. Cates, 72, Greenwood, formerly of Logansport, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation-South Pointe in Indianapolis, IN.

Born on July 2, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Mary Mildred “Millie” (Combs) Merritt.

Margaret retired from Federal Mogul. She enjoyed, baking, doing  crosswords, reading, traveling  and spending time with family.

Survivors include two sons, Alan (Tonya) Cates, Logansport; Larry Cates, Chalmers; two daughters, Rhonda (Stephen) Sprinkle, Walton; Christina (Daniel) Unger, Burlington; sister, Janet Hagene and companion Broc Kiesling, Logansport; brother; Sam (Donna) Merritt, Coal City, IL; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; special niece, Michelle (John) Midyette, Greenwood, IN; niece, Becky (Shane) Baber, Logansport; nephew, Kyle Hagene, Logansport; four great nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Cates and Sharon Merritt;  one brother, Jerry Merritt; daughter, LaDonna Cates; daughter in law, Beth Cates; and nephew Delton Leroy McVay III.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 19, 2016 in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Matthew Myers officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Creek Cemetery, Logansport.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, March 18, also in the funeral home.
