A former Indiana Girls All-Star Team member has become the latest recipient of the Logansport Bicentennial Citizen of the Week honor.
Mayor Dave Kitchell announced today that Kristin Lowry, daughter of former Logansport residents Ted and Becky Lowry, has been named a recipient of the award.
Lowry starred for the Berries before becoming the first girl from LHS to be named an all-star, despite an injury-plagued senior year. During halftime of the Indiana-Kentucky Boys All-Star Game at the former Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Lowry was named the recipient of the John Wooden Award, the most prestigious honor accorded players during the all-star series sponsored by the Indianapolis Star.
Lowry, whose grandfather was a Logansport police officer, later played for two years at Xavier University in Cincinnati when the Lady Musketeers upset the vaunted Tennessee Lady Volunteers in the NCAA Tourney. She later transferred to the University of Indianapolis where she was a mainstay for the Lady Greyhounds.
“In Kristin, we had an outstanding player who forged a path for girls basketball in Logansport, and who came from a family that was instrumental in developing the River Bluff Trail on the north bank of the Eel River. The contributions of the Lowry family to Logansport will continue to bear fruit in perpetuity thanks to their work on River Bluff.”
Kristin, who later coached in the Westfield-Washington School Corporation, was recently honored in a Berry Bowl ceremony recognizing all former Indiana All-Stars from Logansport.
She will receive an Indiana state flag and a certificate from the city.
The award will be presented throughout the year to recognize Logansport residents and natives who have been recognized statewide or nationally.
