Logansport residents overwhelmingly took advantage of free dumpster use last Saturday to do a community-wide “spring cleaning,” but it wasn’t enough.
That’s why Mayor Dave Kitchell says two more dumpsters will be made available free of charge to Logansport residents Saturday morning.
From 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2016, local residents will be able to drop off items at one of two dumpsters immediately west of the Iron Horse Museum at Fourth Street and East Melbourne Avenue.
“We’re asking local residents to only drop off items at the site during those hours,” Kitchell said. “Due to the demand last week, many items, including furniture, were dropped off after dumpsters were removed. We appreciate the cooperation and patience of Republic Services, and we may make more dumpsters available in the future as part of our ongoing effort to clean up the community.”
Kitchell said last Saturday’s “Green and Clean Day” was a record success for the Logan’s Landing Association. A record 211 volunteers participated on a rainy Saturday to clean up downtown streets and lots. That is nearly 50 more volunteers than the annual event drew last year.
“I think it’s an encouraging sign that pride in our community is growing and people want to make Logansport a better place to live. It really speaks to the character of our local community service organizations and people from throughout the community who want to enhance our downtown.”
