MCDONALD’S EAST PROJECT UNDERWAY

McDonald’s opened in Logansport in November 1968 and owner Mark Hammons says the building on East Market served the community for 17,408 days. Yesterday, demolition began to make way for a new state-of-the-art McDonald’s that’s expected to open in about 90 days. Hammons says it’s a 2.6 million investment in the community. The project should be completed sometime in October. In the meantime, the McDonald’s West location is open at 611 W. Market St.

LMU PUBLIC MEETING SET FOR JULY 20

Last month, a team of consultants recommended that the Utility Service Board pursue a wholesale power agreement with a Florida-based company called NextEra Energy Power Marketing.

A public meeting will be held Wednesday, July 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the McHale Complex at Riverside Park. Bill Cuppy, Executive Director of the Logansport/Cass County Chamber of Commerce, will moderate the event, including a question/answer session immediately following the presentations by the law firm of Lewis and Kappes and representatives from NextEra Energy Power Marketing.

LMU is currently under contract to purchase electricity from Duke Energy through 2018, but must notify the company by December 31 of this year if they do not plan to extend that agreement.

RIVERSIDE DRIVE CLOSED TEMPORARILY

Riverside Drive will be closed from 10th to 15th Streets and around the park beginning the morning of July 19 as the Logansport Street Department will be milling in preparation for repaving. There will be no parking and Riverside will be totally blocked, but the milling project should be completed in one day.

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS IN NOVEMBER

Three seats on the school boards for Logansport, Pioneer, Southeastern and Caston will be on the ballot for the general election on Nov. 8.

All candidates for school board appear on the ballot without a party designation.

Candidates for school board must file a statement of economic interest and a petition of nomination signed by ten registered voters from their school corporations.

The first day for a candidate for a school board office to file a petition of nomination with the county election board is Wednesday, July 27, 2016, and the deadline is noon on Friday, August 26, 2016.

Candidates for Caston must file in Fulton County. Candidates for Logansport, Pioneer and Southeastern should file in the Cass County Clerk’s Office.

CCCF INVITES PUBLIC TO SCHOLARSHIP SENDOFF

The public is invited to the Cass County Community Foundation’s 2016 Scholarship Reception and Send-Off Pizza Party on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Ivy Tech Community Room. All CCCF Scholarship recipients and their families are urged to attend! There will be a drawing for door prizes along with tips for starting a successful college career! A highlight of the event is the naming of the 2016 Back Home Again in Indiana Scholarship recipients which will be announced at approximately 5 p.m.

This year, the Community Foundation has awarded scholarships in excess of $250,000 to more than 100 individuals to assist them in attaining their degrees. Come and meet and greet CCCF’s 2016 scholarship recipients and their families, CCCF donors, board members, staff & volunteers.

Pizza and light refreshments will be served. Reservations are required.
