Trine University Student of the Month

Last Updated on July 7, 2016 by cassnetwork

Officer ShannonMike Shannon, a criminal justice major at Trine University, has served as a deputy sheriff for Cass County for the past 16 years.  Soon, Mike will take his last 10-42 and step out of his squad car for a final time.  In August, Mike will be on the other side of the school desk as he begins a new career as a teacher.  Mike has accepted a position as the criminal justice instructor at the Century Career Center; teaching a wide variety of classes that include criminal law, constitutional law, forensics, crime scene investigation and handcuff techniques.

Mike feels like his time at Trine University has boosted his confidence to step out of his comfort zone.  He said coming back to school as an adult learner, there was a fear of the unknown but the support and the encouragement that he has received from the staff at the Logansport campus has been outstanding.  Mike feels his time at Trine University has helped him in his everyday studies while also spilling over into his professional life, also making him a better husband and father.  With his new position, Mike looks forward to spending more time with his family and having weekends and holidays off.  Deputy Shannon, we thank you for your service.
