Last Updated on September 1, 2016 by cassnetwork

bicentennialThe Bicentennial Torch Relay in honor of the state’s 200th birthday is scheduled to begin its journey of over 3200 miles through all 92 counties on September 9. It will start in Corydon, the home of the first Indiana capital, and end on October 15 in Indianapolis, the current capital.

The torch will be carried across Cass County on Friday, October 7, from approximately 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. It will enter from White County on State Road 24 and proceed into Logansport, and east down Miami Avenue. Then the relay will turn south onto Third Street, east onto Market Street, north onto Sixth Street, west onto Broadway to Third Street to retrace its earlier route.

Weather permitting, fourth graders from Caston, Southeastern, and Logansport schools will cheer on the torch bearers in the Logansport area, while Pioneer students will greet the torch as it moves through Royal Center on its way to the Pulaski County line. Unless the weather is severe, the relay will occur rain or shine. It will not be rescheduled for an area if it is canceled because the torch is scheduled to be someplace else the next day.

Keep watching for more Bicentennial Torch Relay news including the location of where each torchbearer will carry the torch. The Bicentennial committee hopes to see a good representation of Cass citizens along the torch route on Friday, October 7.
