Free admission to Indiana State Parks on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 24

Last Updated on September 22, 2016 by cassnetwork

Admission to Indiana’s state park properties and state forest recreation areas where entrance fees are charged will be free on Sept. 24 in recognition of National Public Lands Day.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands. Volunteer opportunities at state parks include lake cleanups, trail work and gardening. Some properties also will offer volunteer opportunities on Sunday, Sept. 25.

But National Public Lands Day isn’t all work and no play. The day is a reminder that public lands are places for outdoor recreation, conservation and making memories with families and friends. Properties will offer hikes, pioneer activities, crafts and live bird shows, too.

“During this year of our Indiana State Parks Centennial Celebration, we have provided several opportunities for Hoosiers to visit our state parks and reservoirs at free or reduced cost so they can appreciate the state’s natural resources and history,” said Dan Bortner, director of Indiana State Parks. “National Public Lands Day is a great fit for this effort.”

National Public Lands Day activities for Indiana state parks are at stateparks.IN.gov/2443.htm.

At Falls of the Ohio State Park in Clarksville, parking and visiting the park’s fossil beds will be free on Sept. 24. However, visitors must still pay admission to get into the interpretive center.

For property-specific information on volunteer opportunities, fall programs and special event weekends, see InterpretiveServices.IN.gov or call the property you plan to visit.
