Local residents and organizations interested in participating in a community- wide effort to improve the community through various projects are invited to an organizational meeting.

A local Make A Difference Day informational meeting will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 14 in the city council chambers on the third floor of the City Building.

Mayor Dave Kitchell says the meeting is being held to identify potential city projects that can be advanced or completed on Oct. 22, which is this year’s Make A Difference Day.

“For several years, Logansport had an active Make A Difference Day Committee that really did make a difference, and at one point, was recognized nationally for its work,” the mayor said.

Make A Difference Day was created in 1992. It is sponsored by USA Today.

Past projects have included painting, construction, cleaning and trail work.

School groups, service clubs, church congregations and sororities and fraternal organizations are encouraged to participate. There is no entry fee and many companies supporting Make A Difference Day projects typically share in underwriting the associated costs.

“This is a chance to focus all the talents, craftsmanship and pride we have in the community to address some of the things that may fall through the cracks throughout the year whether it be in a park, a vacant lot or a Habitat for Humanity project,” Kitchell said. “Make A Difference Day celebrates the fact that there are always opportunities to do good things in a community.”
