New Homecoming Weekend set Oct. 7-9 in Logansport

A high school tradition will be enhanced a bit more this year in Logansport.

Mayor Dave Kitchell has proclaimed Oct. 7-9 as “Logansport Homecoming Weekend.” In addition to the traditional Homecoming festivities associated with Logansport football, the mayor is asking local residents to extend the spirit of the weekend to Saturday and Sunday and to get in the spirit by placing fall decorations around their homes and businesses.

“Homecoming is a time to welcome people back to your community, whether they just went off to college or they’ve been gone several years,” the mayor said. “We’d like to take this opportunity to invite people back to the community. Whether or not they attend Logansport’s football game against Lafayette Jeff, we’d like to invite them to take a look at Logansport and what we have to offer.”

Included in the Homecoming Weekend plans are an open house at the Welcome Center at Fourth and East Melbourne. Information about available homes and properties available, including those not currently generating tax revenue for the community, will be available at the center. The mayor also is asking local church congregations to have “homecoming services” on Saturday and Sunday to welcome back former members and relatives of members.

“Part of the purpose of the weekend is to celebrate coming home, and this is a good time for people who are thinking about a move to Logansport or who have lived here before and thinking about coming back to Logansport to consider the strengths we have as a community and to enjoy a fall weekend in northern Indiana.”

Prior to Logansport’s football game, the Indiana Bicentennial torch will be coming through Cass County between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m., and is expected to come through the City of Logansport between 1 and 2 p.m.
