LOGANSPORT, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College and Trine University are sponsoring a “Return 2 Learn” event Monday, Sept. 26. The event is aimed at encouraging area residents to continue their education, no matter where they are in their pursuit, and to offer the information and resources they need to get back on track.
The event is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Logansport/Cass County Public Library. Area high school seniors and their parents are invited to attend, along with adults who are wanting to either complete their high school equivalency or pursue a college degree.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in pursuing a better future by continuing their education,” said Suzanne Dillman, associate vice chancellor of Student Affairs for Ivy Tech’s Logansport Campus. “Whether you need to complete your high school credential, are seeking better employment options, or are working to succeed in a new country, you will be able to learn more about your educational options at this event.”
Participating agencies, and their areas of interest, include the following:
- Ivy Tech Community College Logansport – certificates, technical certificates and associate degrees
- Trine University – bachelor’s and master’s degrees
- Logansport Community School Corporation Adult Learning Center – HSE (high school equivalency/formerly known as GED) and ESL (English as a Second Language)
- WorkOne Center – information on educational funding opportunities through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development
- The Bridge Immigrant Connection – legal services and translation services for immigrants, as well as serving as a central resource center for immigrant needs through the Bridge Community Church in Logansport
- Upgrades Training Center – an approved Indiana Department of Workforce Development training provider in Logansport
Ivy Tech and Trine representatives will be focusing on the importance of higher education, with information on various degree programs and the enrollment process as well as options for financing higher education that make going to college more feasible for working adults and parents.
“We know the impact higher ed credentials can have on job satisfaction and earning power,” Dillman said.
“According to Indiana data, there are a lot of working adults – an estimated 750,000 in the state – who have some college credit,” she continued. “We know there are a lot of challenges for working adults, especially those with families, to find the time money and energy to go back to school. Ivy Tech and Trine representatives will be able to talk about all the options and student support services that are available to help people complete their degrees.
