KOKOMO, Ind. — Chet Fincher, a native of Logansport and business representative for the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters, has been named to the Ivy Tech Kokomo Region Board of Trustees.
Fincher was appointed to a three-year term by Ivy Tech’s State Board of Trustees and will represent labor on the seven-member regional board.
“We are very pleased Chet is joining the Kokomo Region trustees,” said David Bathe, chancellor of Ivy Tech’s Kokomo and Lafayette Region. “His knowledge of the area served by the Kokomo Region and his many experiences in training apprentice carpenters will be invaluable as we work to better serve our students and meet the needs of the businesses and industries in the Kokomo Region.”
Members of Ivy Tech’s 14 regional boards have four essential responsibilities. These include analyzing educational needs and opportunities in the region, approving regional programming and recommending to the state board a plan to provide education and workforce development programs for the region, approving the region’s budget, and recommending methods for acquiring facilities and equipment needed to deliver regional programs.
Fincher, a 1993 graduate of Logansport High School, completed the United Brotherhood of Carpenters apprenticeship program in 1997. As a journeyman carpenter from 1997 through 2011, he worked his way up to foreman and general foreman with Ziolkowski Construction and Weigand Construction before taking on his current responsibility overseeing daily operations of the Regional Council of Carpenters in 20 counties in northeast Indiana. He has been a part-time instructor in OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) courses for the carpenter apprenticeship program and has served on the apprenticeship advisory board in Warsaw since 2012.
“I am a firm believer that educated workforces are an asset to our communities and employers,” Fincher said. “I look forward to serving as an Ivy Tech Kokomo Region trustee and to helping the College advance the mission of continuing education for the citizens in our region.”
Fincher and his wife, Lauren, are the parents of three children, Luke, 15; Maggie, 13; and Jacob, 10. As a family, they are very active in the ministries of All Saints Catholic Church and in community and school activities. Fincher is a youth minister at the church and leader of a high school group for boys that focuses on serving the community, chaplain/leader for Boy Scout Troop 200, and grand knight of Knights of Columbus Council #561.
