Make A Difference Day postponed

Fall Break played a hand in making it difficult to execute the resurrected Make A Difference Day observance in Logansport.

Mayor Dave Kitchell said Thursday the volunteer effort will be rescheduled for the spring and may be coordinated with the annual spring clean-up day.

“There are a number of community projects that are excellent candidates for one-day volunteer efforts,” Kitchell said. “We just have to find a place on the schedule when we don’t have conflicts with other events.”

The mayor said painting fire hydrants is among the priorities he’d like to see accomplished. He hopes that can be done next year.

“Many of the hydrants have not been painted in a very long time. A fresh coat of paint goes a long way to sweating the details that make our city look a little more attractive.”

The mayor says there also has been support for constructing a trail through the Flory Nature Preserve on the south side and making improvements to the shooting range used by city and county police officers north of the city.

“We’re also hoping to find a property or two that will lend some potential for more Habitat for Humanity homes,” Kitchell said.

Make A Difference Day is a national volunteer day scheduled this year for Oct. 22.
