A new member has been appointed to the Logansport Plan Commission.

Mayor Dave Kitchell announced Monday in a press release that Seger Mathew had resigned from the commission. Kitchell says Mathew, a former candidate for mayor, is relocating.

“We wish Seger and his family well and we appreciate his service on the commission,” Kitchell said.

According to Kitchell, under the rules creating the commission, Mathew’s replacement must be a Democrat.

Kitchell said in another release that Dave Oresik, a former candidate for Logansport City Council, will fill the unexpired term.

Kitchell says Oresik is an Indiana State University graduate and taught school for 30 years, 24 of those in the Peru School Corporation.

“We’re fortunate to have someone with Dave’s background and interest in government on the planning commission,” Kitchell said. “We’re striving to balance boards and commissions with representation from throughout the community, and Dave will be a voice for the concerns for development on the west side of Logansport.”

Kitchell says projects such as the proposed tax abatement for Logan Machine on the west side are signs of renewed investment in that area of the city. He’s hopeful the needs and concerns of west side residents will be reflected in Oresik’s service on the commission.
