A large industrial building on Logansport’s northwest side will be cleared from view in the coming months.
The City of Logansport has received word that work will begin soon on the demolition of the former Exide battery factory on Water Street. Mayor Dave Kitchell said Building Commissioner Deb O’Connor has been notified by the company will be requesting a demolition permit soon.
“This is good news, especially for residents of the neighborhood who have lived and in many cases owned property near the plant for decades,” Mayor Kitchell said last week. “We’re glad to hear that Exide will be leveling its former factory and look forward to the role that will play in future development in that area of the city.”
Exide was formerly known as Electric Storage Battery or ESB. The plant is located on Water Street, which was once part of the path of the Wabash & Erie Canal through Logansport. Pepsi and Country Mark are among the nearby businesses in the neighborhood south of Columbia Middle School and north of downtown.
