A lifelong Logansport resident has received the latest in a long line of special awards during the 200th anniversary celebration of Indiana’s founding.

Jeff Copeland, who won a state bowling championship, is the latest recipient of the Bicentennial Citizen of the Week.

“Bowling is one of the pastimes Logansport has been known for in our long history,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today. “For many years, our city supported two bowling alleys, and we’ve hosted the Elks bowling tourney. It continues to be one of the great ways people spend their evenings and weekends, whether on a church league team or a group representing their business.”

Logansport’s bowling fortunes were touted for years on the WSAL sports program “Ten Pin Talk” hosted by the late Vic Tanguy. Kitchell said he was proud to be a member of the Logansport Kiwanis Club when the late Wayne Myers was an active member. Myers was one of the driving forces behind the establishment of Myers Lanes at the northwest edge of the city. Myers supported many community causes, including the purchase of the ReVere automobile when it was returned to Logansport in 1999.

Copeland will receive a certificate from the Mayor’s Office and an Indiana state flag. The Bicentennial Citizen of the Week has been named throughout the year to acknowledge Logansport’s many residents or natives who have achieved statewide, nationwide or worldwide recognition.
