Jacob Noah “Jake” Graf

Jacob Noah “Jake” Graf, 18, of Logansport, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016. 

Born on February 19, 1998 in Logansport, he was the son of Kevin and Pamela (Johanning) Graf, who survive. 

Jake was a freshman at IUPUI where he was majoring in Criminal Justice. A member of the Jaguars Cross Country and Track teams, Jake made his debut for the Jaguars in an indoor track meet Dec. 5 at Fort Wayne, where he was 18th in the mile in 4 minutes, 49.05 seconds.

Jake began running at the age of 3. He ran his first race, “The Miracle Mile”, alongside his brother, as a kindergartener.  When he was in Mr. LaDow’s third grade class, he ran the Miracle Mile again and his 6:10 mile record still stands.

A 2016 graduate of Logansport High School, Jake was the NCC Cross Country Champion his senior year and the Cass County XC Champion his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He was among the Top 5 fastest cross country runners in Logansport High School’s history. His last award as a runner was at the “No One Fights Alone” cancer run, honoring his mother, where he placed 1st in the 5K division. 

Along with running, Jake enjoyed track, wrestling, basketball, football, and baseball.He was a loyal Notre Dame fan. His favorite hobbies included fishing and road biking. Jake was passionate about golfing. He also played the harmonica. Jake was very entertaining in his roles as a cast member of the SNL productions during high school. 

It was his lifelong dream to one day join the U.S. Marine Corps, following his education. He was a true patriot who enjoyed war movies, his favorite being “Saving Private Ryan”. Among the many great things in Jake’s life, he loved his dogs, Gertie and Maggie. 

Along with his parents, Jake is survived by his sister, Kayla Akers of Indianapolis, his brother, Cody Graf of Fort Wayne; his grandparents, Bertie Johanning of Logansport, Les (Birdie) Johanning of Kokomo, and Linda Graf of Logansport; his uncles and aunts, Wally (Jane) Johanning of Logansport, Todd (Trina) Johanning of Carmel, Jeff (Larry) Johanning of Indianapolis, and Tony (Kimberly) Graf of Westfield; his cousins, Aaron, Michael, Austin, Madison, and Max Johanning, and Rachel and Gavin Graf; and his beloved girlfriend, Kelsie Ellington, of Logansport.

Jake is preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Graf. 

A funeral service celebrating the life of Jake Graf will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2016, in McHale Performing Arts Center, 1 Berry Lane, Logansport, with Pastor Paul Bigger officiating.

Burial, at a later date, will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Visitation hours will be held from 6-10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19,  2016, in McHale Performing Arts Center.  Friends may also call one hour prior to the service Tuesday at McHale.
