Last fall, 17 Caston 4th & 5th graders started a new robotics club.  A grant from Techpoint Foundation for Youth, along with a generous donation from Myers Spring Company, enabled the school to purchase two robotics kits and a playing field allowing us to accommodate two teams.  The teams are coached by 5th Grade teacher, Miss Teresa Button, retired Caston High School math teacher, Bob Uhrich, and Roger Byrum, a parent and engineer from Myers Spring.  The club practices each Wednesday after school.  Students build robots, program robots and drive the robots in preparation for scrimmages and official competitions.  On Saturday, January 21, 2017 Caston’s teams competed against 14 other teams from this area placing 1st in both categories of competition; programming & skills as well as team collaboration.  This performance qualifies the team for state competition at the end of February.  Based upon a point system for scoring, our team is currently ranked 100th worldwide, 57th in the US, and 12th in Indiana.  There are 2,889 teams in the rankings.  Go Robocomets!!
