Digital technology boosts annual Girl Scout cookie sale

Last Updated on January 25, 2017 by cassnetwork

The annual Girl Scout cookie sale is in full swing, and there are several different ways to get your cookie fix! Of course, thousands of local Girl Scouts are selling cookies the traditional way: face to face to their friends and families, and to the general public at cookie booth locations around the area on weekends.

As of 2014 Girl Scouts also are able to sell cookies online via the national “Digital Cookie” platform.  You have to know a Girl Scout to order online; but if you don’t, you’ll be matched up with a girl, and she will contact you via email and send you a link to her personal cookie page. There you can purchase cookies using a credit card and they’ll be shipped to you for a small additional fee. It’s a great option for those living out of state who want to support a Girl Scout here.

In 2016, $3 million was invested in the digital platform to add games, videos, quizzes and music, and to provide workshops about math and technology. “Girl Scouts continues to focus on the importance of boosting girls’ STEM skills and increasing the number of women in the technology industry,” said GSNI-M CEO Sharon Pohly.

Don’t know a Girl Scout but want to order cookies? Just visit www.gsnim.org to “order a troop” to sell cookies at your business; or email iwantcookies@gsnim.org and a Girl Scout will contact you. The cost per box of cookies in the GSNI-M council is $4, and there are eight delicious varieties to choose from. The sale ends March 5. Don’t wait!
