A former county official has been appointed by Mayor Dave Kitchell to serve on a board that governs the prime industrial area in the Logansport city limits.
Kent Hall, a Democrat, previously served as Cass County Weight and Measures Inspector. He will serve on the industrial park board. His three-year term expires on Dec. 31, 2019.
Although the board has been dormant for several years, the mayor said renewed interest in the park and its industrial sites has rekindled a need for an active board that addresses several issues moving forward.
“Kent was a trusted person as a weights and measures inspector and has a great deal of respect for county officials because he was one at one time,” Kitchell said Monday. “He is a natural choice to work in a bipartisan environment to promote economic development.”
The industrial park, which is home to several of Logansport’s major employers, had several industrial sites designated as “Shovel Ready” by state economic development officials thanks to the efforts of former Logansport-Cass County Economic Development Foundation President Nolan “Skip” Kuker. That designation lapsed after Kuker’s departure, but Bill Cuppy, who now heads the Cass-Logansport Economic Development Organization (CLEDO), has worked along with the city to re-establish the Silver Shovel designation.
“We are actively working to market these industrial sites and expand Logansport’s tax base,” Mayor Kitchell said. “Since the industrial park is a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district, there is ample funding for infrastructure improvements. We look forward to working with our county counterparts to advance the industrial park’s attractiveness to industrial site selection experts.”
