STATEHOUSE (Jan. 23, 2017) – State Rep. Bill Friend (R-Macy) recognized Indiana Teacher of the Year Jitka Nelson at the Statehouse Wednesday for her dedication and commitment to education.

Currently, Nelson teaches English, language arts and developmental reading at Logansport Community High School. She has been an educator for 25 years.

“The single most important factor in a student’s success is an excellent teacher,” Friend said. “Jitka is one of the best in her profession, and the students at Logansport Community High School are lucky to have her as an educator. I appreciate all the hard work and dedication Jitka has poured into our community.”

In October, Friend, on behalf of former Gov. Mike Pence, recognized Nelson with a Sagamore of the Wabash. The Sagamore of the Wabash award is one of the highest honors the governor of Indiana can bestow upon a Hoosier. Recipients of this award have demonstrated distinguished service to the state.
