Michael Z. “Bubba” Shorter

Michael Z. “Bubba” Shorter, 26, of Star City passed away at 9:33 a.m., Sunday, January 22, 2017 at South Bend Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Born on February 5, 1990 in Bremen, he was the son of Gregory J. and Tracey L. (Hughes) Shorter. On March 3, 2012, he married Brandi A. Briney.

Bubba was a 2009 Winamac High School graduate. He worked as a Process Operator at Tate & Lyle in Lafayette.

Bubba was a proud Star City Volunteer Fireman.  He was an avid hunter and enjoyed riding his motorcycle.  Michael was a devoted husband, a loving son, an incredible friend….a firefighter in every sense of the word.  He not only saved his wife and unborn son, his selfless gift of donating his organs will benefit many people in Indiana and he will live on in so many ways.

Survivors include his wife, Brandi A. Shorter and unborn son of Star City, parents, Greg and Tracey Shorter of Winamac, siblings, Christi Hoffa (Tim) of Winamac, Ashley Stemm (Rickey) of Nappanee, Emily Campbell of Winamac, Jamie Shorter of Winamac, father and mother-in-law, Dave and Celinda Briney of Winamac, sister and brother in law, Amanda and Beau Johnson of Star City, nieces and nephews, TalynSchmucker, Madison Hoffa, Isabelle Schmucker, Kaden Stemm, Ethan Hoffa, Damion Stemm, Ellie Campbell and Parker Campbell. He is also survived by maternal grandmother, Janice Burger of Goshen and maternal grandfather, Keith Soales of Las Vegas and paternal grandparents, James and Betty Shorter of Winamac.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Winamac Church of Nazarene, 516 E. 13th St., Winamac, IN.  46996. Pastor Glen Meyers and Pastor Barry Faucett will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Winamac Church of Nazarene, where there will also be an Indiana Volunteer Fire Fighter’s Memorial Service conducted at 7:00 p.m.

Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bruce Lake.

The Michael Shorter Memorial Fund has been established at Alliance Bank in Winamac for future support of Michael and Brandi’s unborn son.  Memorial contributions can also be made to the Star City Fire Department in memory of “Bubba”.
