Thomas Albert Armstrong

Thomas Albert Armstrong, 71, Marion, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016, in his residence.

Born July 29, 1945, in Anderson, he was the son of the late Raymond Floyd  and Virginia (Rhea) Armstrong.

Thomas spent 20 years of his life serving in the Indiana National Guard.

He enjoyed playing cards, going fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends.  Thomas was also an avid Yankees fan.

A smoker most all of his life, Thomas developed Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD).  It became his mission to encourage others to stop smoking and spread the word about PAD.  He was featured in The American Heart Association Medical Review for 2016.  His story was told in lectures in Boston and Washington D.C.  His story helped further fund research in this critical area.  Thomas would appreciate all donations to be made to the American Heart Association in his memory. Thomas is survived by six children: Bridget Birnell of Marion, Tom Armstrong of Logansport, Charity (Les) Grable, Mick(Rosa Gonzales) Armstrong and James (Tashaiana) all of Lafayette, and Jessica Armstrong of Marion;  twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are three sisters, Cindy Riehle of Kokomo, Penny Armstrong of North Vernon, and Cheryl (David) Phillips of DeMotte; and one brother, David Armstrong of Logansport.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond “Butch” and Donald Lee Armstrong.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Thomas Armstrong will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 5 in Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport.

Burial, with full military honors presented by the National Guard Honor Group and the Cass County Honor Guard, will be in the West Cemetery in Washington Township. The Patriot Guard will also accord honors with a flag display and escort.

Friends will be received  from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 4 at Fisher Funeral Chapel..
