Born on January 26, 1937 in Logansport, he was the son of the late Francis and Marie (Enyeart) Lebo.  On December 5, 1998 he married Helen Carmody who preceded in death on January 3, 2001.

Professionally, Jerry was a journalist, beginning as a cub reporter on the former Logansport Morning Press.  He rose to the position of editor and later served on the copy desk of the Fort Wayne (Ind.) Journal-Gazette. He became news editor of the brand new Franklin (Ind.) Daily Journal in 1963 when it became only the second offset printed newspaper in the state. He was editor of the quarterly ISNA News 1981-1995 with the exception of one year when he was ISNA second vice president. More recently, Jerry’s Numismatic interests have shifted from U.S. type coinage to U.S. paper money, especially Indiana material and fractional currency.  He also gained interest in tokens but has ventured only sparingly into this area.

Jerry was elected governor of the American Numismatic Association in 2001. He was appointed chairman of Publications Committee, he served one term and did not seek re-election.

Jerry was a frequent exhibitor at ISNA conventions, mostly non-competitively. He also judged at ISNA and CSNS conventions. In his First competitive exhibit (fractional currency, first issue) he won third place at the 1993 CSNS spring convention in Chicago.

He was a Bourse Chairman of the ISNA annual convention from 1982 through 1988; Bourse Chairman for the Central States Numismatic Society spring conventions at Indianapolis in 1988 and 1994.

Jerry was President (1990 and 1996) of Indianapolis Coin Club; formerly its sergeant-at-arms and chairman of its junior program. He presented occasional programs at schools on behalf of ICC. Due to his service, he was awarded an ICC life membership in 1993 (only 14 such honorary memberships have been given by the club in 54 years.)
