Ciotta named “Logansport Citizen of the Week”

A local woman who raised thousands of dollars for the Cass County Humane Society is the latest recipient of a city honor.

Cami Ciotta, wife of Logansport veterinarian Chris Ciotta, has actively worked to support the ongoing mission of the society. Among her pursuits was the “Fur Ball” at Grissom Air Reserve Base that raised money in an “out of the box” fashion to support the humane treatment of animals in the community.

“We’re fortunate to have people like Cami who step up and fill a need they see in our community, and do it out of the compassion of their heart,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today. “Logansport has long been a community that loves its pets, but with that come issues of adoption, strays and animal control. Cami has more than done her part to address those issues, and we all have to do ours, too.”

Kitchell said animal control complaints his office receives range from barking dogs during the night to stray animals running loose in neighborhoods where children play and problems associated with hungry animals looking for food in dumpsters and toters.

“If pets and strays could tell us what they want, we’d probably hear an earful, but what we really need are people willing to adopt animals and commit to spaying and neutering them, or at least taking them to a veterinarian to ensure the health of our animal population,” the mayor added.

The Citizen of the Week Award is presented on an ongoing basis to recognize local residents and natives for their work or volunteerism.
