HCI forum report now available online

Last Updated on March 1, 2017 by cassnetwork

A report on the Logansport Hometown Collaboration Initiative’s community forum is now available on the Logansport HCI website at www.indianahci.org/logansport.

The forum was held Jan. 24, 2017 in the Logansport High School cafeteria. About 100 community members participated.

The purpose of the forum was to  seek thoughts and insights on the survey results and the community’s existing plans, and to capture ideas on how to build on the quality of life, economic and leadership assets of the community.

For the first time in HCI’s history, two forum sessions were held simultaneously – one in English and one in Spanish.

In addition to the forum, the HCI team surveyed local community members with nearly 2,000 responses.

The team has been meeting since September preparing to select a building block on which to focus. These include developing a new generation of leaders, growing small business and entrepreneurs and enhancing community design and public spaces.

At their next meeting on Wednesday, March 8, the team will use a consensus decision-making process to evaluate the results of the survey and forum and come to a decision about which building block to pursue: leadership, economy or placemaking.

The HCI team will complete additional training in the chosen area and will then propose a capstone project.

The HCI team is co-chaired by Michelle Dials and Zach Szmara. Team members include Maria Elisa Banuelos-Cortes, Ferd Burgman, Kevin Bostic, Mercedes Brugh, Vicki Byrd, Kevin Callaghan, Deanna Crispen, Bill Cuppy, Erica Hopkins, Molly McBride, Jon-Myckle Price, Krista Pullen, Arin Shaver, Michele Starkey, Barbara Stein and Lisa Terry.

The HCI program is delivered by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) in partnership with Ball State University’s Indiana Communities Institute (ICI) and Purdue University’s Center for Regional Development (PCRD). Logansport’s team is coached by Tamara Ogle from Purdue and Beth Neu from Ball State.
