Thora L. Pownell

Thora L. Pownell, 97, Logansport, formerly of Lake Cicott, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, in Woodbridge Health Campus.

Born June 13, 1919, in Royal Center, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Permella Huffman Berkshire.

On March 16, 1941, she was married to Clyde Pownell. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2002.

Thora was a 1937 graduate of Adams Township High School, In 1980, she retired from R.B.M after working there for over 28 years. She and her husband owned Lake Cicott Antiques which was started out of their love of going antiquing and stopping at yard sales. An excellent cook, Thora also enjoyed crocheting and quilting.

She is survived by one son, Greg (Cindy) Pownell of Logansport; two daughters, Phyllis (Don) Miller of Lake Cicott and Jeanette (Jim) Bain of Plymouth; two sisters, Mary Benson of Port Charlotte, FL and Helen Merkert of Fishers; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Berkshire of Royal Center; five grandchildren Blake Pownell (Shana Musall), Lesley Miller (Rod)Wysong, Tim (Alethea) Miller, Kelly Bain (Gene) Skirvin and Scott (Carol) Bain; ten great-grandchildren: Brandon and Chad Wysong, Sierra and Brooke Miller, Evan, Hayden and Payton Skirvin; Katlyn (Jordan) Hughes, Kelsey and Zackary Bain.

She was preceded in death by five brothers: Robert Sr., Francis, Clyde, Dean and Charles Berkshire.

A celebration of Thora’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23 in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

Friends will be received from noon until the time of the service Thursday in the funeral chapel.

Burial will be in Davis Cemetery.
