KOKOMO, Ind. — More than 125 north central Indiana employers are planning to participate in the spring Kokomo Area Job Fair set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at the Kokomo Event & Conference Center. Indiana University Kokomo, Ivy Tech Community College, WorkOne of Kokomo, and the event center are sponsoring the fair, which is open to students, alumni and community members seeking part-time, full-time or internship positions.

The fair is open without charge and provides participants the opportunity to meet with employers and discuss potential job opportunities.

“Anyone interested in a full-time, part-time, internship, or even volunteer opportunity is provided a greater advantage by networking with prospective employers while attending this job fair,” said Tracy Springer, director of IU Kokomo’s Career & Accessibility Center.

“While we have had attendees get job offers at the job fair, job fairs aren’t necessarily about finding a job that day,” she continued. “The day is about building relationships and getting your name out there for a job that may open up tomorrow.”

Springer noted participants should be sure to dress in professional business attire. “Bring your résumé in case an employer asks for one,” she encouraged, “and be prepared to talk with every employer.”

Job fairs also offer a great opportunity for career exploration. “Even if you’re not looking for a job right now, a job fair is a great place to find out what kind of jobs are out there and what kind of credentials you’d need to qualify,” said Marcia Worland, director of Marketing and Communication for Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Region. “Admissions officers from both Ivy Tech and IU Kokomo will be on hand to talk about options for coming back to college to get the certificates or degrees that will open doors to new careers.”
