A south side resident and Logansport native will fill out an unexpired four-year term on the Logansport Parks and Recreation Board.
Carolyn Short succeeds Chris Martin, who resigned to pursue other interests. Short will be sworn in at the board’s next meeting May 4.
“I want to thank Chris for his service to the city,” Kitchell said. “He indicated he enjoyed the experience and satisfaction of serving on the board, but at this point in his life, he has other potential directions to go that he wants to follow. We wish him the best.”
The mayor said Short will add representation from Logansport’s south side to the board. Given the presence of Fairview Park and the Flory Preserve on the south side, she will be a voice for the residents on that side of the city, he said.
Short is employed with the Miami Correctional Center near Bunker Hill. She is a 1975 Logansport High School graduate and was active for several years in the former Iron Horse Festival’s Celebration revue.
Her term expires Jan. 1, 2019. She is the second Democrat appointed to the board by the mayor. Duane Ullom, the board vice-president, is the other. The other two mayoral appointments are Republicans, President Lynne Ness and former president Beth Myers. Mike McCord, the school board appointee to the board, also is a Republican.
