A local man who was a prisoner of war in World War II is recognized this week with a special city award.
Ova Huff served for many years in local planning and zoning capacities on the city’s behalf. But many years before that, he served in World War II. Mayor Dave Kitchell, who announced his recognition today as a Citizen of the Week in the city, said the time to honor Huff and other veterans is this month when the nation observes Memorial Day.
“Generations of Americans have come and gone since World War II, but the contributions made by the men and women involved in it still impact the world every day,” Kitchell said. “We’re grateful to those who were either drafted or enlisted to serve, but left without the promise they would return to their loved ones. At a very critical time in the history of our country and the world, we were fortunate to have heroes abroad who were captured, but made it back to us, safe and sound. In Ova’s case, he continued to serve his city well after he had served his country.”
Huff will receive a certificate signed by the mayor and a gift certificate to a local restaurant.
The Citizen of the Week is presented to Logansport residents or natives whose lives have contributed to the community, the state, the nation or the world.
