Memorial Day Events & Closures

In honor and recognition of all of our fallen service members, the Congress, by a joint resolution approved May 11, 1950, as amended (36 U.S.C. 116), has requested the President issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe each Memorial Day as a day of prayer for permanent peace and designating a period on that day when the people of the United States might unite in prayer.  The Congress, by Public Law 106-579, has also designated 3:00 p.m. local time on that day as a time for all Americans to observe, in their own way, the National Moment of Remembrance.

Flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise to noon on Monday, May 29.

Federal, state and local government offices, including Logansport Utilities, will be closed Monday, May 29 in observance of the holiday.

Trash pickup for Logansport residents will be delayed one day the week of May 29, with a Saturday pickup. See the holiday pickup schedule here.

Cass Area Transit and the Cass County Council on Aging / Downtown Senior Center will be closed on Monday, May 29, for Memorial Day. There will also be no city bus on Saturday, May 27.

Cass County’s Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29 at the Logansport City Building. Lineup will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the public and all military veterans are invited to participate. The parade route will include brief programs at the City Building, Cass County Government Building on 4th Street and the 6th St. Bridge. The parade will then travel to the Civil War monument in Mount Hope Cemetery for a brief program, followed by a brief program at Legion Circle in Mount Hope Cemetery.

A Memorial Day Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 29 at Walton IOOF Cemetery.

All Indiana BMV branches will be closed Saturday, May 27 through Monday, May 29 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Branches will resume regularly scheduled business hours on Tuesday, May 30.

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will be closed on Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day.
