A new independent internet radio station in Cass County is hoping to launch its first station this summer. After fifteen years since the last known local internet station went off the air, Blackbird Media Group is rallying for a comeback, this time with the support of social media.
The group is planning to air its first station, The Cat, this August in time for the 2017-2018 school year. Genres will include pop, alternative, contemporary country, and southern rock from various decades, catering to listeners of all ages. Not only will the station provide mainstream and indie music, but local musicians and fledgling musicians on Kickstarter and Patreon are encouraged to submit an MP3 recording of a promotional track to be played on the air. Listeners will be able to stream from Blackbird Media Group’s website and its corresponding application. Live requests will be taken via social media and email.
Blackbird Media Group is currently being operated as a non-profit hobby but with the intention of becoming a business in the future following its three-year trial. The group is hoping to one day advertise on behalf of small businesses, festivals, and organizations in Logansport and Cass County, as well as creating full-time and part-time job opportunities.
An all-or-nothing Kickstarter campaign will run through Tuesday, May 30, 2017, 3PM ET, with rewards for the group to honor if the goal is met at the end of the campaign. If necessary, a second campaign will be launched on Thursday, June 1, 2017, and will run through Friday, June 30, 2017, 3PM ET. The pledge goal of $12,000 is to cover expenses for the group’s trial period, including licensing, software fees, server fees, website fees, and new equipment. Pledgers will also be entered into a drawing for a chance to win 10 random albums on vinyl and a turntable on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, as part of the group’s Thank You Vinyl Xmas Package giveaway (also subject to the campaign’s success).
