Logansport Community School Corporation teachers and former teachers may be nominated for the second annual Margaret Newby Outstanding Teacher and Retired Teacher Awards.
The awards recognize an outstanding LCSC teacher as well as a retired teacher or administrator for career contributions to education and the community.
Teacher nominations will be accepted via mail at the Mayor’s Office and via e-mail through May 31.
The awards are named for the late Margaret Newby, who spent much of her career at Longfellow Elementary School. Newby also assumed various coaching capacities during World War II and won city elementary titles in football, basketball and baseball.
Last year’s recipients were Kathy Bahnaman from Columbia Elementary and Marla Sellers, who taught at Franklin, were honored at a reception last fall and received their awards from former State School Supt. Glenda Ritz. This year’s honorees also will be honored at a luncheon just after the start of school this fall.
