Flash flooding causes evacuations on Logansport’s south side, Fairview Elementary opens as evacuation center

TUESDAY: JULY 11: Cass Transit City Bus will be running but Cass Transit is operating on limited service because radios are down due to weather. They are working on restoring service.

As of 7:20 a.m. Dispatch reports that roads posted last night remain closed. Drivers should not drive around “Road Closed” signs and should not drive through standing or flowing water on roadways.

US at Anoka has reopened. Additional road closures include  but are not limited to the Hoosier Heartland in Carroll County,  SR 29 north of SR 18 to the county line & south of SR 18. There is also flooding reported at 400 W and France Park.

Cass County Dispatch reports a “tremendous number of impassable roads” as of 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 due to major flash flooding.

Parts of southern Logansport are being evacuated, specifically the areas of Anthony and Shultz Street. Fairview Elementary is being opened as an evacuation center. Officers and fire departments are going door to door trying to get to people and relocate them to Fairview’s gym.

All fire departments are on standby for rescues including Clymers, Walton, Galveston, Young America.

ROAD CLOSURES:

The Hoosier Heartland (SR 25) is closed at 100E in Carroll County, both lanes affected.

US 35 is closed at 300 S northbound (between Walton & Logansport).

SR 29 north of SR 18S Junction to the Cass County Line is closed.

Motorists are reminded not to drive through standing water and should be aware of their location should they become stranded.

There were reports of several confirmed tornadoes in Cass County early Monday evening.
